The Called Me Cotton
Benny Hanover enjoyed telling tales and stories of growing up in his hometown of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. From those carefree and hardworking days of the 1940s and 1950s, his boy-to-man adventures were filled with near prescient bodings of his mother, steadfast presence of his father and everyday amusements and exploration. He invites you to come sit a spell as he carries you back to a time not so long ago.
"... a challenging thing, to weave together the stories about and by one man into the profile of a place and era ... a labor of love for that man and for his times and community ... a good book for NC high schools and the state's historical society." -- Janna Klarmann, author of Gaviota Island: Birds, Monkeys, and Twisted Love
